NextMinute and Buildxact are two popular job management software options for builders in New Zealand and Australia. Each offers similar features tailored to meet the needs of the residential building sector.
Designed for small to medium-sized construction businesses, NextMinute provides an all-in-one solution that simplifies job management, quoting, timesheets, invoicing, and cost tracking. Its user-friendly interface and mobile app make it easy for teams to stay connected and manage projects on the go.
NextMinute excels due to its powerful mobile app, which offers all the functionality of the desktop app (excluding Gantt charts, because who wants to fiddle with those on a small device!). You can manage your jobs and finances from anywhere, and your crew can enter timesheets, notes and photos against jobs and tasks. Buildxact’s mobile app only enables you to view jobs and enter site diaries.
Buildxact’s standout feature is the built-in timesheets takeoff function, excellent for precise estimating and quoting. While NextMinute does not have a takeoff feature, it can import takeoffs from other software providers.
NextMinute is far more affordable and offers flexible month-to-month pricing options tailored to suit your business size and needs.
Buildxact is great for administrative staff and planning but lacks functionality when it comes to the day-to-day operations of a construction business.
Designed specifically for builders with 5-30 crew members. Flexible pricing means you pay only for what you require with a simple split between admin staff and team members.
All your team’s timesheets in one place. Job hours flow straight onto the job invoice and straight through to payroll at the click of a button. Simple and inexpensive, as timesheeting is included in the team member role.
Our product, support, and development are based on what our customers require to make their business management simple.
Starting with a single Admin membership, you can build your team (and pricing) to exactly what suits your business needs.
Full integration with Xero, QuickBooks, and MYOB allows you to sync contacts, timesheets to payroll, invoices, and supplier bills with their line items into NextMinute jobs.
Supported by local specialists who know trade business like the back of their hand.. Read our reviews on how first class our support is, no bots, just real people ready to work WITH you.
Full visibility of all jobs in one place with filters and different views.
To manage a residential construction business and team (beyond simply quoting), Buildxact requires either the Pro or Team membership, effectively locking every user into a higher price point regardless of what features they need.
To record your team's time and apply it to your jobs, you need to purchase a separate expensive system. More cost, another system, more hassle.
Either an expensive quoting-only system or you need to have your entire team signed up as “all-access” users. To limit control of your team members you need to pay even more.
The ‘Entry’ tier has a limited number of features and is double the price of a full access NextMinute admin membership. The Team tier locks all users at a single and high price point making it inflexible.
Limited integration to accounting systems, with no bills import from Xero. Supplier bill integration is also very limited because you cannot push line items into individual jobs.
As per their support page and Google reviews, support is not “people first” as you may have to wait some time to get any response at all.
